Interested in having a first-hand experience of Emirati culture? Then sign up for a pearl diving experience and learn more about the UAE’s rich seafaring heritage! Participants will be given a history of this livelihood, which helped sustain generations of Emiratis, in addition to traditional diving costumes and masks before they try their hand at finding these elusive jewels of the sea. If you’re lucky enough to find one, it’s yours to keep! Also, crew members will entertain you with traditional songs and stories, while you enjoy light refreshments.
SUITABLE FOR: All ages. You must be a confident swimmer in deep water to participate in pearl diving.
DURATION: 3 hours
GROUP SIZE: two (minimum)
WHAT TO BRING: Swimsuit, towel, sandals, and sunscreen, hat and waterproof items. Please note that the Desert Islands Watersports Centre will not be responsible for your personal belongings.
WHERE IT IS: The tour is conducted from a traditional dhow in the waters off Sir Bani Yas Island, an area where pearl diving was very popular during the pre-petroleum era.
COST: Dhs500 adult and 50% for children (8-12 year old), below 8 years old is free.
