Abu Dhabi, April 13, 2015 – Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) announced today that Sir Bani Yas island will host the second Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race in Abu Dhabi’s Western Region, which will take place from April 18 – 19, 2015. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the race, organised in partnership with Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) will bring together sailing enthusiasts from sailing clubs across the whole of the United Arab Emirates in a non-stop race from Sir Bani Yas Island, the award winning nature and wildlife reserve, to Dubai.

ENDANGERED BIRD SPECIES INTRODUCED TO SIR BANI YAS ISLAND

Sir Bani Yas, the award-winning nature and wildlife island reserve located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s western region, recently welcomed 20 Houbara Bustards (Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii) to its thrilling wildlife population. The introduction of these unique birds is the result of joint efforts led by the Department of Presidential Affairs, the Sir Bani Yas Conservation Team and Barari Forest Management – which manages the fauna and flora on the island on behalf of TDIC. Classified as ‘Vulnerable’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the birds have been currently placed nearby the Arabian Wildlife Park.

Successful Introduction of Critically Endangered Arabian Tahr to Sir Bani Yas Island

Sir Bani Yas, the renowned nature and wildlife island reserve, recently welcomed a new addition to its vibrant wildlife population – the endangered Arabian Tahr Arabitragus jayakari. The conservation introduction has been the result of the joint efforts by the Sir Bani Yas Operations Team, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), Barari Forest Management (BFM), which manages the Island’s flora and fauna, and Al Bustan Zoological Centre (ABZC), a non-commercial zoo based in Sharjah.

The first-ever Sir Bani Yas Offshore Race, which started on Friday, April 18, came to an end yesterday with a prize-giving ceremony at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, crowning Shahrazad the 2014 winner of the race. In its first edition, the two-day nonstop race brought 70 sailing enthusiasts aboard 11 boats together for a week-long event, which was organised by Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), in partnership with Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas, Rotana Jet, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC), and Volvo Ocean Race Abu Dhabi Stopover.

They will be pitted not only against the open sea, but also against each other’s experience as they sail to victory at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club by Sunday, April 20. There, the victors will be crowned during a special celebration marking the end of this exhilarating week-long event, which is organised by Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), in partnership with Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas, Rotana Jet, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC), and Volvo Ocean Race Abu Dhabi Stopover.

Over 90 sailing enthusiasts begin their journey to Sir Bani Yas Island from Dubai

Over 90 sailing enthusiasts aboard 13 sailing boats have begun their journey to Sir Bani Yas Island from the Dubai Offshore Racing Club, heading towards Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, their only stop on the way to Sir Bani Yas during which sailors will rest before heading out to Sir Bani Yas for the island’s inaugural Offshore Race, which will take place the following week from April 18-20.

Organised in partnership with Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas, Rotana Jet, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC), and Volvo Ocean Race Abu Dhabi Stopover, the event is expected to bring together 90 sailing enthusiasts aboard 13 sailing boats on a non-stop race from Sir Bani Yas Island to Dubai.

Abu Dhabi’s Western Region welcomes new Logistics Port on Sir Bani Yas Island

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), in coordination with Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), has unveiled a new logistics port facility located on Sir Bani Yas Island in the Western Region. An opening ceremony was held on site this week in the presence of Tony Douglas, Chief Executive Officer at ADPC, and Jim Pringle, Acting Chief Executive Officer, TDIC.
