Today, Marius leads the island’s Corporate Operations. Raised up on a farm, Marius grew up close to the Kruger National Park in South Africa. He started his career in conservation management in 1978 with the Johannesburg Zoological Gardens whilst completing a conservation qualification and becoming part of the team that developed two nature reserves for the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in 1985. Over the next couple of decades, Marius’ extensive experience in conservation and wildlife management grew richer until he established his own conservation development business in 2004 which gave him the chance to work on larger game reserves in Southern Africa. In 2007, Maruis moved to the UAE to join the team on Sir Bani Yas Island under TDIC’s management.
With a passion for wildlife, Marius today leads the design and building of most developments associated with the capture and handling of wild animals. While most of his work is spent in the office, he spends a considerable amount of time on field inspections evaluating the progress on the ground. He’s very dedicated, has lots of adventure stories to tell and has admitted to being very forgetful! He says the best part about his job is that he gets to see the beauty of nature unfold in front of his eyes on every new day.
