Najamuddin Vistro

Najamuddin Vistro is the area manager at Barari Forest Management on Sir Bani Yas Island. He was born in a small village in the Sindh Province of Pakistan. Growing up he was passionate about plant breeding and eventually specialized in it. He later earned two Master’s Degrees in Forestry from Peshawar University in Pakistan and from University of Missouri in Columbia, USA. He has also received professional training in Germany, Netherlands, Malaysia, Srilanka, Maldives and Pakistan. 

Vistro first came to the UAE to serve as a mangrove scientist focused on the reintroduction of an extinct native mangrove species of the UAE which was made successful after four years of scientific studies. The native mangrove called R. mucronata was successfully grown at Ras Ghanada Island after about 100 years in the gulf coastal waters. 

He is also the author of books and research papers, including a book called “Manual for raising mangrove container plants nurseries and plantations in the United Arab Emirates” on the rehabilitation and development of mangrove ecosystems in the UAE. He moved to Sir Bani Yas in 2013 and is responsible for the wildlife conservation and the forestry project on the island. 

He is a nature and animal lover. He’s also very passionate about mangrove protection and makes sure that our visitors understand how important it is to preserve them. It’s pretty much what gets him up in the morning.
